Climate Justice Rally

During our recent Climate Justice Rally we heard from some inspiring community members about their fight for Climate Justice. From Santa Susana to Aliso Canyon, the San Fernando Valley is all too familiar with environmental disasters. We are striving to create a co-governance model that ensures those most affected by policies are the ones in the room helping to craft them.

At this event we heard from:

• Jane Arakawa Fowler speaking on her personal experience living near the AlIso Canyon facility when it blew out in 2015, releasing a "a poly cocktail of toxins, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and even crude oil" for 4 months

• Matt Pakucko highlighting the reality that while you may not have been personally affected by the Aliso Canyon blowout, similar disasters will just keep happening until we transition to 100% renewable energy

• Steve Andrews sharing his perspective on the negligence and delay of remediation at the Santa Susana Field Lab.

• Josiah Edwards speaking to the need for leaders that are willing to actually hold corporations accountable for environmental destruction

We must face the climate crisis with bold, sweeping solutions. With adequate action, we can not only avert the worst climate scenarios, but reshape our society to be more equitable and caring in the process.
